What some rules for studying scripture?
I.  Determine who is speaking (speaker)?
II.  What's the purpose?
III.  What's the time (dispensation)?
IV.  Interpret all scriptures in light of other scriptures

Or Inductive Studying
A.  (?) - {Was talking really fast, miss that bullet point}
B.  Interpret what it means
C.  Application

Hebrews: 21 Letters , 14 are credited to Paul
Author: Unknown
Purpose: to let the Jews know that they shouldn't go back to their old ways..the "Mosaic system"
of

A. Sacrificing animals for sin
B.  Confessing to a Priest

Jesus died and paid it all.  No need for the above..Jesus didn't do away with the law, He fulfilled the Law

There was a hand-out (and we filled this out in class) -

God (2316)
   who at sundry times  (4181)
   and in diverse manners (4187)
spake (2980) - in times past
                            unto the fathers
                              by the prophets

What does at Sundry times mean ? - In many portions.. God didn't reveal himself all at once
God didn't reveal himself all to one person
He revealed himself to various people, over time.. giving them a chunk at a time

Example:  God Word's was revealed to 40 men over a period of about 1400-1600 years

God (theh-os)  Means Supreme Divinity
Why is this important to mention during this time? Ans.  During this period, men worshiped many false gods
So In Hebrews 1:1  God is speaking..Big 'G'..The only true and living God

What does fathers means?
i.e. bilogical, leaders, progenitor, ancestors (head of families)

vs 2
2Hath in these last days
             spoken unto us
                     by his Son,
whom he hath appointed heir of all things,
                                    by whom also he made the worlds;

Gal. 4:4; Isaiah 7:14; Psalm 2:7; John 5:22; John 3:16
We are join heirs with Christ?  Why is important to know that it was Jesus that died for us?  Why didn't Paul die for us?
 Galatians 4:4
New Living Translation (NLT)
4 But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law.

Isaiah 7:14

New Living Translation (NLT)
14 All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin[a] will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).

John 3:16

 (NLT)
16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

Rom 8:17; Gen. 1:1; John 1:3; Colosians 1:15

This was powerful

15Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

My commentary: consist = God held it together
Your life, no matter how chaotic it is, God is in control of everything and He certainly can handle and hold your problems together.

Everything was made by God and for God!

2 Corinthians 4:4

4In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

TEXT "THE BOTTOM LINE"

Matthew 25:14-30

New Living Translation (NLT)
Parable of the Three Servants
14 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone. 15 He gave five bags of silver[a] to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last—dividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip.  16 “The servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more. 17 The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned two more. 18 But the servant who received the one bag of silver dug a hole in the ground and hid the master’s money.
19 “After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money. 20 The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, ‘Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’
21 “The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together![b]
22 “The servant who had received the two bags of silver came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two bags of silver to invest, and I have earned two more.’
23 “The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’
24 “Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate. 25 I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.’
26 “But the master replied, ‘You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn’t plant and gathered crops I didn’t cultivate, 27 why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’
28 “Then he ordered, ‘Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one with the ten bags of silver. 29 To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away. 30 Now throw this useless servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
Footnotes:
  1. Matthew 25:15 Greek talents; also throughout the story. A talent is equal to 75 pounds or 34 kilograms.
  2. Matthew 25:21 Greek Enter into the joy of your master [or your Lord]; also in 25:23.

Matthew 5:14-30

New Living Translation (NLT)
14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
Teaching about the Law
17 “Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. 19 So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.  20 “But I warn you—unless your righteousness is better than the righteousness of the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven!
Teaching about Anger
21 “You have heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment.’[a] 22 But I say, if you are even angry with someone,[b] you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot,[c] you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone,[d] you are in danger of the fires of hell.[e]  23 “So if you are presenting a sacrifice[f] at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, 24 leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God.
25 “When you are on the way to court with your adversary, settle your differences quickly. Otherwise, your accuser may hand you over to the judge, who will hand you over to an officer, and you will be thrown into prison. 26 And if that happens, you surely won’t be free again until you have paid the last penny.[g]
Teaching about Adultery
27 “You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’[h] 28 But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 So if your eye—even your good eye[i]—causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your hand—even your stronger hand[j]—causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
